Ethical Guidelines

Ethical Guidelines for Authors

Authors submitting to Social Sciences Advancement and Governance Excellence (SSAGE) must adhere to the following ethical standards:

  • Reporting Standards:
Authors must provide accurate, complete data and proper references to allow reproducibility. Fraudulent or misleading statements are prohibited.
  • Originality and Plagiarism:
Submissions must be original. Proper citations are required when using others’ work. Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, is strictly forbidden. Manuscripts with a similarity index above 19% may be rejected.
  • Declaration:
Authors must declare that the work is original, not under review elsewhere, and clearly state all co-authors’ contributions.
  • Multiple and Redundant Publication:
Submitting the same research to multiple journals simultaneously is unethical. Republishing with substantial updates must cite the original work.
  • Acknowledgment of Sources:
Proper credit must be given to all sources and contributors, including financial and technical assistance.
  • Authorship:
Only those who significantly contributed to the research should be listed as authors. All co-authors must approve the final manuscript.
  • Privacy of Participants:
Authors must protect participants’ privacy and obtain informed consent when publishing identifiable information.
  • Data Access:
Authors must provide raw data if requested for editorial review.
  • Images:
Images must be original and unmanipulated, with clear explanations of how they were produced.
  • Conflicts of Interest:
All potential conflicts of interest and financial support must be disclosed.
  • Copyright:
Authors may be required to transfer copyright or grant publication rights to the journal.
  • Manuscript Decisions:
Authors will be informed of acceptance, revision, or rejection after peer review. Appeals against rejection can be made by contacting the Editor.

Ethical Guidelines for Reviewers

  • Reviewers must inform the Editor immediately if they lack expertise in the subject area or are unable to meet the review deadline.
  • Reviews should be submitted on time. If delayed, reviewers must notify the Editor with a revised timeline.
  • Reviews must be objective, constructive, and based solely on academic merit, without personal or biased judgment.
  • Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate; feedback should be respectful and clear.
  • Confidentiality must be maintained. Reviewers must not use manuscript content for personal use or share it publicly.
  • Any conflicts of interest (personal, financial, intellectual, etc.) must be disclosed to the Editor.
  • If unable to review impartially, the reviewer should decline the review request.
  • Suspected plagiarism, fabrication, or ethical issues in research should be reported to the Editor.
  • Reviewers must evaluate originality, methodology, and relevance of the work, and provide clear, actionable comments for authors.
  • A brief summary and final recommendation (Accept, Minor/Major Revision, or Reject) should be included in the review report.
  • Feedback must be courteous, detailed, and helpful for both the Editor and author(s).
